3. Overview
The research center for
Technological Innovation on Sustainable
Buildings (TISBRC) was established in June,
2005, supported by the Ministry of Science
and Technology (MOST), Korea Science and
Engineering Foundation (KOSEF), and Hanyang
University (HYU). With its main office and
laboratories located at HYU, there are 20
faculty members joining the center from
7 universities in Korea.
The purpose of this research
is to establish a world-class sustainable
building technology system by developing
engineering high-tech focusing on highrise
building to improve the environmental conservation
and the quality of life.
4. Objectives
Domestic building production
activity needs a paradigm shift from conventional
construction activities to sustainable development
using sustainable building technology such
as reduction of natural resources, energy
saving, longer life span, recycling, etc
to reduce environmental load throughout
the entire building life cycle - building
design, construction, operation, demolition.
To realize this objective, the
research and development will be implement
major technologies for sustainability such
as material saving, optimum design, energy
saving, environmental load reduction, jobsite
pollution reduction, construction waste
management, durability improvement and LCC
reduction of facility management.
5. Areas of Research
and Their Accomplishment
The research will be composed
of 4 main research tasks which are cross
related. The subjects of 4 main research
tasks are as follows:
·Development of
Natural Resource Design Technology through
the Innovation of Space and Structural
System Advancement
·Development of
Energy Saving Technology in Buildings through
Environmental Load Reduction and
Efficiency Improvement
·Development of
construction technologies for the reduction
of construction waste using architectural
components and construction
automation
·Development of
sustainable building maintenance system
for enhancing the environmental performance
and the durability
performance
6. Outlook and Projections
·Establishment
of world-class sustainable building technology
to conserve the global natural resources
and environment.
·To observe national
responsibility that reduces CO2 emission
based on climate change treaty in
Architecture
·Production of
creative academic territory by combining
high-technology and sustainable building
technology.
·Reduction of natural
resources, energy saving, recycling, longer
life span, economic effectiveness
by LCC reduction.
·Education of personnel
related to sustainable building technology,
practical
technology, technology
transfer to industry, institutionalization
of environmental friendly law, and
implementation of
social movement.
7. Human Resource Training
Education and propagation of
design technology on sustainable buildings
are the important roles of TISBRC for public
and social benefit.
·International
workshops and symposiums for graduate students
and practical engineers
·Social programs
for technical and environmental academies
·Produce of more
than 5 doctors and 20 masters per year on
first stage
8. Academic-Industrial
Collaboration and International Cooperation
·Academic-Industrial
