Center of Industry-Academia-Research Cluster which Introduces Leading Engineering Tehcnology
Established in 1979, the College of Engineering Sciences has been developing superb technical manpower and providing education for industrial advances. A practical academic tradition focused on experiments, and excellent faculty members with the latest equipment are developing elite engineers to lead the high speed technology era. It has sixty laboratories and about seven-thousand pieces of the latest experimental equipment and materials for experimental practice. The College is equipped with seven-hundred personal computers and a high speed LAN network. Furthermore, through the industrial complex in the Ansan region and a collaborative system with industry, academia and research centers, including Technopark, IDE(Ic design Education Center), RRC(center for Electronic Materials & Components) and the Engineering Technology Research Center, the College of Engineering Sciences has produced a steady flow of research manpower in industrial technology.

Division of Architecture & Architectural Engineering
The educational aim of the Department lies in the nurturing of global architectural professionals who will serve the community as well as the world. The department¡¯s aim can be further described as training future architectural engineers with the knowledge of the latest technologies and theory, and architects with a good understanding of theory and engineering that becomes a solid base for the creative and innovative design and research.
Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering
The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering is committed to providing its students the very best education and training to become leaders in their chosen areas of expertise through undergraduate and graduate programs. The Department tries to attract the finest faculty members, endeavors to maintain excellent laboratories and research facilities, and supports a number of co-curricular activities that enhance the student¡¯s experience.
Department of Transportation Engineering
Transportation is an essential element for the economy and welfare of a nation. Its importance increases as a nation becomes more modernized and advanced. The Department of Transportation System Engineering of Hanyang University seeks to educate students to be global leaders in the transportation field by conducting comprehensive and scientific analyses of traffic engineering issues.
Department of Electronic & Communication Engineering
Future industries are expected to undergo a dramatic shortened cycle of technology reform and the gap between several technologies are expected to converge at a noticeable accelerated systematic and dynamic rate of change. In particular, the future offers advanced leading technologies for communication device oriented electronic industries and SW/HW related mobile communication/telematics, IT SoC/integration/components, home network.
Department of Electrical System Engineering
To realize fruitful, convenient and safe future world for human being, it is indispensable to have intelligent systems which are working in coordination of electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems through network. Intelligent robots are such examples. In order to realize intelligent systems, it is necessary to education engineers who are capable of understanding and designing systems that are composed of computer, electronic, and mechanical components as integrated systems.
Department of Computer Science & Engineering
Computer Science and Engineering is an essential and core technology for the information age, that enables the designing and manufacturing of high-performance computers, as well as the software needed to operate and apply them in the industry and society. This technology will continue to be one of the key technologies that will shape our society in the 21st century.
Department of Materials Engineering
The field of Material Engineering involves studies of structure, properties, processing and performance of various materials in order to develop high-tech materials. The department of Material Engineering is committed to provide its students the best education and training to become leaders in their chosen areas of expertise through undergraduate and graduate programs.
Department of Chemical Engineering
The Department of Chemical Engineering of Hanyang University at Ansan is nationally recognized for its leadership in modern engineering research and education. Its goal is to provide students with tools, experience, and adaptability to prosper not just as new graduates but throughout their careers.
Department of Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering is concerned with the engineering aspects of design and development, thermofluics analysis, machine design, manufacturing, automatic control, and the science of machine application. The broad areas to which mechanical engineers contribute are power generation, energy conversion, manufacturing, robotics, automated manufacturing systems, and other applications in the field of engineering.
Department of Industrial & Management Engineering
The department offers programs of study leading to the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial and Management Engineering. To provide students with disciplines and skills needed in the era of globalization, competitive business, and service oriented environment, our undergraduate program is organized into the following six specialty tracks.
Department of Bionano Engineering
The Bionano Engineering Department provides an interdisciplinary education and research environment that focuses on fusion technology of Biotechnology, Nanotechnology and Biomedical Engineering. It was established strategically in 2010 to make great contributions to the advanced industrial society. It purposes to nurture specialized global leaders with the knowledge of the latest technologies and theories. The faculty members of the department participate in research as bio-nano photonics, nano & bio sensor, bio-nano technology and functional bio-nano materials.

1.Q. Would you briefly introduce the ERICA College of Engineering?
A. The ERICA College of Engineering was established in 1979, with approximately sixty thousand graduates in total. The graduates of this college have contributed not only to the development and advance of the Kyeonggi Province¡¯s engineering sector, but also to the major enhancement of Korea¡¯s engineering industry. There are twelve majors in total, including two of the most important rainbow divisions on the ERICA campus, the Robot Engineering Department and the Bionano Engineering Department. Other majors, such as Integrative Engineering, which provides night lessons for those that work, and military information engineering, a special major run with the Korean marines, are all notable academics in the College of Engineering. Currently, there are about 3500 students, and 25 percent of them are female students. Considering the number of students, professors and faculty, the number makes up to 40 percent of the ERICA Campus, which bestows great responsibility and mission to this department.
2.Q. What would you say makes ERICA¡¯s College of Engineering special?
A. Hanyang University¡¯s College of Engineering has been demonstrating great achievements in patent admissions, technology transfers, practice drills, and provides a specialized curriculum based on the on-campus laboratories, research institutes and regional locations such as Kyeonggi Techno Park. Such advantage allows students the privilege of internships and business education. This makes our college competitive and recognized, being chosen in Hanyang University¡¯s BK21 Plus Business Team, and many national businesses that aim to support our college for future growth of the software industry. With approximately W 5.4 billion of annual financial support, our college is providing a global-level education and study environment for students and professors.
3.Q. What are major accomplishments of the College of Engineering?
A. Noting that the employment rate was 80 percent as of last December, the overall employment rate among graduates is around 70 percent, which also indicates the appreciation of the potential and abilities of our graduates and our college. I believe this owes to the positive results of professional guidance of professors from each major, combined with diverse educational policies and support that students are given. Furthermore, the professors of the College of Engineering actively explore their areas of academia and release around 3 papers yearly on international journals, one professor receiving around W35 million of research funds every year. To illustrate, professor JaeBum Jum of the bionano engineering department has published around 196 SCI papers since he was appointed professor in 1995. In the recent six years, he has published around 12 papers every year on international journals, receiving the ¡°Paik Nam Suk Academic Award¡± in 2015. Moreover, professor KyungTae Kang of our computer engineering department has received a special promotion in 2015 after releasing his paper on the international academic journal, IEEE Computer.
4.What are the career options for the college's graduate students?
A. Students from the College of Engineering are usually employed in various areas such as manufacturing, trade, finance or architecture, or can proceed to higher levels of studies in graduate schools for a master¡¯s or doctor¡¯s degree. Those who have achieved higher degrees can chose more diverse career paths, including private or national laboratories, teacher in middle/high schools, professor, or even start up their own business.
A. During the last few decades, it was hard to ignore the national trend that went against the sciences, such as engineering. Now, however, with more emphasis on research and development, national and private companies are employing more and more science graduates. Just as your seniors provided the foundation for a positive future in engineering, I hope that our future engineering students can be the front-runner in the research and development of the academia and national economy. I look forward to observing the dreams turning into reality at our engineering department.
