[The Korea Times] Nuclear-free Energy Top Priority for Paik

The designation of Paik Un-gyu, Hanyang University professor of Department of Energy Enginerring, as the minister of trade, industry and energy implies that making a shift in the country's energy policy will be his biggest task.
Paik said he will focus on enhancing industrial competitiveness through two strategies of "first mover" and "fast follower," on top of creating quality jobs by nurturing new industries in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
After earning a doctorate in ceramic engineering at Clemson University, he has been working as a professor at Hanyang University.
He has been known as a scholar who strongly supports transition to environment friendly energy. He designed the administration's energy policy of shifting from coal-fired and nuclear power generation to environment-friendly sources such as LNG and renewable energies. Cheong Wa Dae also acknowledges that his top task will be energy policies.
