In modern society, with the development of digital technology, there is an increased demand for a variety of cultural contents and greater potentials for big returns by contents industry. As a representative knowledge-based industry integrated with creative power and cutting-edge technology, cultural contents industry has a characteristic of 'one-source and multi-uses' and is widely known to have high added values. This course aims to help students understand the current situation and the structure of cultural contents and predict future directions. Furthermore, the students will study the basics related to cultural contents, including the overview, classification, the necessity and effects of cultural contents, the situation in Korea, the related policies and managemental strategies, etc.

This course will give the chance students to improve their reading skill needed before taking their own major classes. SEMINAR FOR FRESHMAN The ‘seminar for freshman students’ aims to cover the following aspects: etiquettes of the university life; how to use the university facilities; how to improve oneself and provision of ideal ways to utilize the student period. It aims to broaden the 1st year students’ point of view to their majors as well as the university life in general. The lecture will discuss studying skill including taking notes, taking exams, time management and subject enrollment in order to guide students to achieve an ideal studying pattern and further to set up a career path. In particular, this course combines creative thinking with the concept of play to routinize it, practice it through a variety of methods such as making stories, and make it a basis for the development of cultural contents.

This course aims to cultivate among students the comprehensive understanding of science and technology in modern society, employing philosophical methods and concepts. To do this, the course offers a survey of some important theoretical results recently obtained in science and technology studies. We will carefully examime a number of concrete case-studies, ranging from the electrification of America, quantum revolution to the introduction of western science to traditional Korea. We will then discuss the intrinsic nature of modern science and technology as well as its socio-cultural aspects in the context of modern society. Students who take the course shall appreciate how modern science and technology from the nineteenth century has come to manifest a number of unique characteristics, which can be clearly distinguished from the science and technology of even, the eighteenth century. We will discuss in the class the significance of this difference. The course will also highlights the importance of dialogue between experts with different background and encourage more interactions between humanities and natural sciences, so that we can make well-informed and reasonable decisions concerning complicated issues which are so common in our multi-layered society.

This course is designed for the beginning student in photography. The student will be introduced to basic photographic technique beginning with basic camera operation. There will also be visual presentations on uses of digital photography. The practice of the basic camera operation and technique for the student will be to aid in the understanding of the medium. In addition, frequent assignments and critiques will further develop an understanding of photographic technique.

The target audience of the course is students studying natural sciences and/or engineering. The contents of the course will be stylized each term, considering the student';s needs and backgrounds.

As the advent of mankind was interpreted with the concept of culture, we, in this Age of Globalization, still do not understand well enough about the diversity and characteristics of different cultures. In this class, we will define culture as an adaptive system of humans, and will take an overview on those divers adaptive systems following the time. This class aims to offer, first of all, basic tools of interpretation on Anthropology which uses holistic approach to understand life patterns of human groups. Perception frames and basic knowledge for different cultures of the World will also contribute, with humanities education in general, to build global citizens of the future. Lectures will be offered by professors who are specialized on various cultural regions and area. Students also have many occasions to participate via their presentations and commentaries, especially related with their own experiences of travel, or residence in 'other cultures' from Korean culture. This course is held twice a week, each for 1.5 hours. The course is mainly divided into two parts; one is Korean speaking and the other is Korean writing. Through the Korean speaking class, students will build the ability of excellent self-expression based on in-depth study about Korean language. In the Korean writing class, students will learn how to write different genres by understanding and analyzing various readers’ perspectives. Accordingly, at the end of the semester, the students will develop critical thinking ability as well as effective speaking and writing skills.

Practice in Development of Electronic Games This course trains the students to have professional capabilities as a director of game development. Students enhance their understanding of game theories, game scenarios, game designs, game systems and production, and study the process of pre-production, production, and post production. By doing case studies, they also explore the whole process of game development, investigating how to raise funds and formulate strategies for OSMU through toys, animations, and characters in the pre-production stage, and investigate the OSMU strategies and advertising strategies in the post-production stage.
