Introduction

The Department of Korean Language Education is aimed at cultivating professional and competent middle and high school teachers and researchers and practicing skills based on the theories to understanding Korean language education. Korean Language Education is divided into Korean phonology which studies how speech is organized in human language; Korean grammar which studies the rules inherent in Korean language; and Korean language semantics education which studies homonyms, synonyms, and polysemic words. Korean Language Education is a discipline that studies the substance, property, and teaching-learning methods of poetry, novels, essays, plays, and criticism from classical to contemporary works. The communication education theory is a discipline that understands listening, speaking, reading, and writing and that explores the teaching-learning methods of those skills. The study of education focuses on developing instruction and communication skills so that students can be taught correctly.

Korean Language Education studies how to teach Korean language and literature efficiently and creatively beyond simply combining Korean literature and pedagogy. Through this, students can acquire professional knowledge to become a Korean language teacher, develop the ability and qualification to teach students correctly, and have a sense of mission to contribute to education and the growth of Korean culture.

Information

Highlights

The First Step to Becoming a Korean Language Teacher
It is difficult to complete a course in teacher education and obtain a teacher certificate if students go to a general department such as Korean Language and Literature. This is because they are expected to maintain a high grade in that department. However, in the Department of Korean Language Education, students have the advantage of being able to acquire a teacher certificate by taking steps according to the set course without taking exams. Therefore, the Department of Korean Language Education will be a good opportunity for those who are interested in becoming a teacher.

Academic Excursions to Literature Sites
On a fine spring day, almost all the undergraduate students in the Korean Language Education Department, go on an academic excursion to historical literature sites. Students walk along the path cited in literature works, sit in a gazebo, look around a literature museum, and stay at the author’s home. Students can sense the footsteps of many literary writers who were only seen in textbooks. They also give a presentation and have a discussion on the research from the literary site.

Teacher-Training: The Core of the College
The Korean Language Education Department conducts educational services and exercises. It is a great opportunity to experience the education scene before becoming a teacher.
Students gain experience in class and with students. In the teaching practicum, they receive help and feedback on teaching methods from current teachers.
