Introduction

The Department of English Education studies methods for developing English language proficiency. Therefore, in the Department of English Education, students will develop English language skills that they need to be an English teacher and will study to improve their English communication skills. English is still a core curriculum in Korean secondary schools, along with Korean language and mathematics. In modern society, English communication skills have become a necessity not an option. In a globalized society, an individual’s English skills have become very important. As the international work of each company increases, it is hard to find students who are not studying English.

In response to this situation, there is a need for a more efficient way to learn English. The Department of English Education covers a variety of ways to teach English by understanding the process of human language acquisition and theories and knowledge related to language education. The Department of English Education is part of the College of Education. Since it is the ultimate aim of cultivating educators, the Department of English Education focuses on teaching English as a second language, as well as English itself, and encourages future educators to have a student-oriented mind in teaching English.

Information

Highlights

Full Support for Teacher Certificate Examination Preparation
Most students in the Department of English Education prepare for a teacher’s certificate examination. The number of students in the department is about 25 students per class, which is small compared to other departments. This small number of students in a class has many advantages in preparing for the exam. Since one professor is in charge of a small number of students per class, students can often receive counseling regarding career and academic from them. A stronger advantage is that since most of the  students of the department prepare for a teacher certificate examination, their small number enables them to prepare together while attending lectures. Students also receive much help in preparing for interviews through pilot lectures. There is also a library for students of the department contributing to a higher passing rate since they have optimum facility use during the preparation period.

Many Opportunities to Speak English
Majoring in English Education, students have many opportunities to use English. Above all, there are many English-only classes. Many classes use English with exchange students from various countries. It is also a great help to improve English skills by taking reading and writing lessons from native English-speaking professors. Students can see their presentation skills and English skills improve due to many opportunities for language use.
