Hanyang University, Myong Ji University, and Seoul-Jeongsu Polytechnic College jointly organized the "4th Korea Youth Science Idea Contest Award Ceremony" on December 15th at the Grand Meeting Room on the 6th Floor of the Hanyang Institute of Technology (HIT) on the Seoul campus.

The contest was designed to help the younger generation to develop their creative talents through inventions. The winners earned credits that will be applied to their admission at the universities that participated in the event. A total number of 1,320 inventions were submitted to the contest from October 10th to November 30th. There were middle school students to university students who attended the contest and the selection was based on creativeness (novelty), ideas (science), completion level, aptitude, and potentiality to make the invention usable. There were 20 experts from the patents field and special judges.

In the first screening process, 15% of the items submitted were selected and in the second round there were only 8% items that remained to be finally selected. A total number of 80 teams received awards from the Minister of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development and Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Middle school participants were encouraged to keep their interests in science and making inventions by being awarded with small gifts. Prof. Ju-Hyung LEE (Seoul-Jeongsu Polytechnic College) who is the Chairman of the Organizing Committee said, "It is our duty as teachers to encourage our students to be motivated and to think creatively." He added, "I'm glad that there has been an increasing number of participants entering the contest and I'm sure this contest will grow bigger in the years to come." He also said that there is consideration towards awarding scholarships to winners during their university studies."

Mr. Kil-Bok KIM who attended the ceremony on behalf of his son from Bu-Cheon said, "I was impressed with the size of the contest today and I'm happy to see that students' talents are being recognized by universities." He added that he hoped this contest continues in the many years to come. The contest was supported by the Ministry of Education, Human Resources Development, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Labor, Small and Medium Business Administration, the Korean Intellectual Property Office, the Korea Invention Promotion Association, the Korea Institute of Design Promotion, the Korea Patent Attorneys Association, the Korean Standards Association, the Jeongsu Scholarship Foundation, the Korean University Invention Association, the Korean Association of Science and Inventions, the Korean Women Inventors Association, and Glami Co. Ltd.
