This course is devised for students to achieve the ability to implement computational structural analysis based on the concept of structural mechanics for the statically determinate or indeterminate structures by mainly focusing on the Finite Element Method (FEM)-based structural analysis procedures. The lecture is first given for the fundamental theory of matrix structural analysis, which is a basis of FEM, in the context of flexibility method and direct stiffness method for the frame structures. Then, weighting residual method, Galerkin`s method, variational principle, and energy method are investigated to obtain the finite element formulation, which is known to be the most powerful numerical analysis tool for the accurate analysis of complex structural system as well as problems in continuum mechanics. Finally, modeling, formulation process, and numerical analysis procedure of the 2 dimensional structures such as frames, plates, shells, etc., are studied. In addition, it will be explained how to use general-purpose structural FEM programs. |
