[Performance]Hanyang University Selected in the National Project "Battery Specialists Training"

Hanyang University was selected for the "Industrial Innovation Talent Growth Support" Project. This is a battery-specialized human resource development project that has emerged as a generation growth engine. According to a report by the Ministry of Industry and Electronic Newspaper on August 12th, 5 universities, including Hanyang University, were selected in a national project designed to train master's and doctorate-level professionals for future businesses and major industries. This is the first time the government has taken the lead in training battery specialists. The project will last for the next 5 years with 10 billion won in state funds to be spent on the project. About 10 people per participating school, a total of 100 people will be fostered as battery professionals and will strengthen their global competitiveness. In addition, the labor shortage in the industry is expected to be solved as well. Of the 5 universities participating in the project, Hanyang University, Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), and Chonnam National University will train in Battery Core Materials, while SungKyunKwan University and Chungnam National University will train personnel in Battery Design and Altitude Analysis. Through this training, professionals with master's and doctorate degree from LG Chem, Samsung SDI, SK Innovation, POSCO Chemical, EcoPro, and L&F will be linked to employment related to domestic batteries and materials. An association official mentioned that "while the domestic battery industry is growing rapidly, the infrastruscture for training professional human resources is by far insufficient." The association official also added that "since there have been no departments related to batteries, we plan to create a virtuous cycle supported by college students who want to get a job in the battery field by utilizing systematic curriculum for each university." Hanyang University stands out among the top 15 Universities after analyzing "Student startup and startup support status" and "Startup education application status" as announced by the Academy Information (대학알리미) on June 30. In addition to the largest number of student start-up companies this year as well as the previous year, the number of start-up lectures was overwhelmingly high. Hanyang University had the most student startup businesses, which indicates the results of startup education. This is about 2.6 times more business startups compared to the average number, since the top 15 universities’ average is 18.3 students starting 16.1 businesses per university. This shows the reason why Hanyang University holds such a high reputation as a cradle of CEO training. Hanyang University, whose startup founder number was the highest, also ranked first in number of startup lectures. Hanyang University has 512 startup lectures, which is more than three times higher than that of Kyunghee University (163 lectures) which ranked second. The increased rate of theory-based lectures was especially high, with 493 lectures, along with 19 practice-based lectures. Hanyang University showed a wide increase in the number of lectures with 67 lectures in 2016, 55 lectures in 2017, 262 lectures in 2018, which leaped once again in 2019. The average number of startup lectures of the top 15 universities is 100.1. Startups founded through extracurricular activities were also overwhelmingly high from Hanyang University. Hanyang University showed a huge majority in startup clubs and startup contests, excluding the startup camp. Last year’s number of startup clubs was 164, which was more than double that of Konkuk University and Korea University (78 clubs) which were ranked second. As for startup contests, Hanyang University held the largest number of start-up competitions with 13 sessions and second largest number of start-up camps(18 times) after Dongguk University(37 times). ▼ The following is the list of universities according to each category (provided by the Academy Information) <Number of student startup founders (according to the number of startup businesses)> Hanyang University 43 students (42 businesses), Korea University 34 (26), Konkuk University 30 (29), Kyunghee University 29 (21), Yonsei University 24 (20), Hankuk University of Foreign Studies 23 (23), Sungkyunkwan University 15 (10), Seoul National University 13 (12), Chung-ang University 13 (12), Dongguk University 12 (11), Ewha Womans University 10 (7), Sookmyung Womans University 10 (10), Inha University 10 (10), Sogang University 5 (5), University of Seoul 3 (3) <Startup lecture status (number of students applied)> Hanyang University 512 lectures (12,496 students), Kyunghee University 163 (5,983), Chung-ang University 102 (5,722), Hankuk University of Foreign Studies 100 (6,630), Yonsei University 57 (2,641), Sungkyunkwan University 158 (5,934), Inha University 74 (5,362), Konkuk University 92 (5,680), Korea University 40 (2,259), Dongguk University 62 (4,405), Sookmyung Womans University 43 (1,294), University of Seoul 35 (988), Ewha Womans University 22 (1,649), Sogang University 29 (690), Seoul National University 12 (449) (How many lectures?) <Number of startup clubs> Hanyang University(164), Konkuk University & Korea University (78), Sookmyung Womans University (76), Yonsei University (55), Sungkyunkwan University (48), Kyunghee University (46), Dogguk University (30), Chung-ang University (28), Seoul National University (19), University of Seoul (18), Sogang University (11), Ewha Womans University (11), Inha University (6) Global News Team global@hanyang.ac.kr Translation by: Park Gyeong-min

[Performance]Hanyang University Had the 4th Highest Number of Students Pass the 2019 Tax Accountant Exam

On June 11, the University News Network announced the status of the universities with the highest rate of students passing the 2019 Tax Accountant Exam. From Hanyang University, 25 students passed the 1st exam while 25 students passed the 2nd exam. While these student statistics have been announced over the years, this is the first time the numbers of examinees from each university have been specified. Hanyang University's ratio of successful applicants for the 1st exam was 16.9% (25 people / 148 people), and on the 2nd exam it was 32.3% (77 people / 239 people). The number of successful applicants by univeristy data was provided by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea through information gathered during the exam application process when applicants had to enter which school they were from. The Tax Accountant Exam, just like all the other exams for specialized jobs in Korea, requires a 1st and 2nd exam. Both the 1st and 2nd exams use an absolute scale system, where the applicants must get at least an average of 60 points, and 40 points for each subject. However, while the 1st exam can be passed according to the absolute scale system because usually there are fewer successful candidates than the fixed minimum number for the final selection, there is quite a large number of people that still pass the test despite receiving disqualifying scores. Additionally, there has been an issue with the 2nd exam being insufficient to judge the quality of universities. This is because of the fact that the majority of applicants that are taking the 2nd exam graduated a long time ago. Considering this fact, it can be said that the 1st exam is a better index to measure the effectiveness of the universities. ▲ [Contributed by] 2020. 6. 11th University News Network Article Last year, the Human Resources Development Service of Korea announced the list of 37 universities that have had the most people pass the exam during the past 10 years, from 2009 to 2018.
