[Performance]Hanyang University's Industry-University-Research Cooperation Foundation wins Innovation Award at CES

Hanyang University announced that three products will receive an Innovation Award at the Consumer Technology Show (CES) 2020, the world's largest electronics and information technology exhibition, which will be held in Las Vegas next January. Hanyang University will have won the Innovation Award for two consecutive years following CES 2019. The winners of the innovation award are △Pragrant, an Electronic Deodorant Device Using Bio-plasma Technology, △PLACA, Curtain Disinfection System with Air Purifier, and △Smart Cane for the Blind with Independent Power Technology. These products have been commercialized and presented at the exhibition by Hanyang University’s Industry-University-Research Cooperation Foundation. ▲ Pragrant is an electronic deodorant device using bio-plasma technology. ▲ Curtain Disinfection System with an Air Purifier, PLACA ▲ An image of a Smart Cane for the Blind with Independent Power Technology Pragrant is a bio-plasma and plasma medical technology that sterilizes bacteria and helps manage unpleasant odors in the body. PLACA is a special curtain designed to remove harmful substances such as bacteria and bacteria using plasma technology. This is especially useful in sensitive areas such as hospitals. These two products are distinguished by the development of ideas from the field with professor Lim Tae-ho’s participation (Department of Emergency Medicine). The smart walking stick was developed by Sung Tae-hyun, a professor in the Division of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering, and used independent energy production technology. The infrared sensor on the stick works by detecting obstacles and alerting the user with vibration or sound. It is also equipped with a GPS navigation module to check its location. [Performance]14 Hanyang University Graduates Finally Accepted in 2019 Public Administration Examination 5th Level Technical Post

Hanyang University produced the second highest number of successful candidates with 14 accepted in this year’s 5th level open recruitment public administration examination(technical post). The Law Journal disclosed that among the 66(national recruitment 58 people, regional recruitment 8 people) who were ultimately successful in the 2019 5th level open recruitment technical post announced on October 2nd, Seoul National University comprised the first place with 18 (27.3%) accepted. Subsequently Hanyang University had 14(21.2%), Yonsei University 13 (19.7%), Korea University 10 (15.2%), KAIST 3, Soongsil University 2, and University of Seoul·Pukyong National University·Pusan National University·Sogang University·Sungkyunkwan University·Inha University had 1 person accepted in the open recruitment. Hanyang University leaped forward as the second place from 9 successful candidates last year to 14 this year. Hanyang showed strong points in architecture, machinery and civil engineering fields, and produced 3 successful applicants respectfully. Meanwhile, the average age of successful candidates in the technical post was 26.7, which is 0.7 years lower than last year (27.4). Ages from 25 to 29 were the highest with 39 people (59.1%), ages 20 to 24 had 16(24.2%), ages 30 to 34 had 9 people(13.7%) and there were 2 people over 35(3.0%). [Performance]Hanyang University Ranked 101-110th in the '2020 QS World Employability Rankings'

The British university evaluation institution, QS announced their '2020 QS Graduate Employability Rankings' on September 19th. While top domestic universities showed downward trends, Hanyang University entered the 101-110th rank, a rise a in comparison to last year. For two consecutive years, MIT was ranked in the top spot. The top three universities were all American universities, including Stanford University, which took second place, and UCLA, which took third place. Tsinghua University was the only Asian university to be ranked in the top 6 worldwide. Similar to last year, Seoul National University was the highest among domestic universities but dropped five ranks from 23rd in 2018 to 28th in 2019. The following domestic universities were ranked as follows: KAIST (82nd), Yonsei University (88th), Sungkyunkwan University (96th), Hanyang University (101-110th), and POSTECH (251-300th). 12 domestic universities, including Chung-Ang University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Kyung-Hee University, Kyungpook University, Pusan National University, and Seogang University were reported to have placed in the 301-500th ranking. Hanyang University was ranked in the 201~300th (2017), 201~250th (2018), and 121~130th (2019). [Performance]74 Research Institutes, including Hanyang University, Selected for the ‘2019 Human Science Research Institute Support Project’

74 research institutes including university affiliated research institutes, such as the Hanyang University Tourism Research Institute, the Music Research Center, and the Institute for Knowledge Services, have been newly selected for the Ministry of Education’s Human Science Research Institute Support Project. The Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea announced the following notice in the ‘2019 Human Science Research Institute Support Project’ through the new selection results. Previously, the Ministry of Education had been promoting the research support project since 1980 to university affiliated research institutes in order to create excellent research achievements as well as the construction of a research base through characterization and specialization of research institutes. A total of around 1.2 billion won in research funds will be provided to the 74 new research institutes, consisting of 200 million won in average annually for a maximum of six years (3+3years) per research institute. [Performance]Hanyang University Ranked Number One with 18 Successful Candidates at the 2019 National Technology Exam

Hanyang University Preparation Course for the National Technology Exam said 18 successful candidates passed the second round of the National Technology Exam which was held on September 2, ranked first among domestic universities. By series of class, civil engineering, architecture, and mechanical engineering had the most candidates of four and electronics, chemical engineering, communication, data processing, and disaster prevention had one successful candidate each. [Performance]2020 THE World University Rankings, Hanyang University Ranked 351st-400th

The British global university evaluation agency THE (Times High Education) announced the `2020 THE World University Rankings` on September 11th. Hanyang University ranked 351st-400th, which is the same as last year, and also ranked 9th among domestic universities. In the world rankings, Oxford University ranked in the top spot for two consecutive years, while Cambridge University dropped one spot to take 3rd. In addition, the California Institute of Technology rose from 5th last year to 2nd. The following rankings round out the rest of the field: Stanford University (4th), Michigan Institute of Technology (5th), Princeton University (6th), Harvard University (7th), Yale University (8th), Chicago University (9th), Imperial College London (10th). There were no big changes except for some subtle position changes. Among the top 10 universities, there were three British universities and seven American universities. ▲ Domestic University Rankings Seoul National University fell one place down to 64th but ranked 1st among domestic universities. Until the 200th, Sungkyunkwan University (89th), KAIST (110th), Postech (146th), Korea University (179th), Yeonsei (197th) were ranked. [Performance]Announcement of 2020 QS World University Rankings, Hanyang University takes 150th

On June 19th, the U.K.'s world university evaluation agency QS announced their 2020 World University Rankings. Hanyang University rose one position up to 150th place from the previous year. The top position has been held by MIT in the U.S. for eight consecutive years, followed by Standford University in second place and Harvard University in third. The U.S. has five school ranked in the top 10, Britain has four, and Switzerland has one, while Switzerland's ETH Zurich University took 6th place. In Asia, Nanyang Technological University of Singapore and the National University of Singapore tied for 11th place, being the highest ranking. Among South Korean universities, Seoul National University ranked highest, despite its one notch drop down to 37th compared to the previous year. Following are KAIST (41), Korea University (83), POSTECH (87), Sungkyunkwan University (95), Yonsei University (104), Hanyang University (150), and KyungHee University (247), making it eight universities that entered the rank of 300. While the ranking of Korean universities is steadily rising, the top universities are facing stagnant times, falling one to four notches. In particular, 28 of the top 30 universities saw their rankings drop in terms of graduation reputation. Relatively, Asian countries such as Singapore, China, and Japan have been rising steadily. Hanyang University ranks 150th in the world and 7th in Korea. Beginning to rise in 2011 after a slight fall in 2010, it rose one notch in 2019 from the previous year, maintaining a steady rise for nine consecutive years. It seems that the rise in Hanyang University's academic reputation had an impact on its overall ranking. [Performance]2019 Maeil Business Newspaper University Startup Index",ERICA took 5th place and Seoul 9th place

ERICA campus ranked 5th and Seoul campus ranked 9th in the 4-year university category of the Maekyung University Startup Index, which was evaluated by the Maeil Business Newspaper and the Korea Business Incubation Association, on June 13. Among the three evaluation indicators, Hanyang ranked second among the four-year universities in the startup support sector. Maekyung University Startup Index is evaluated on the basis of data disclosed by the Korean Venture Business Association, posted on the Higher Education in Korea page at of the Ministry of Education, the Small Business Venture Business Department BI-Net, Korea Business Incubation Association data, and university survey. Unlike last year, this year’s evaluation covered a total of 247 universities (4-year) and 170 colleges (2-year), including special purpose universities such as universities of education, theology colleges, and cyber universities. The comprehensive evaluation was conducted through the sum of three categories: startup infrastructure, startup support, and startup performance. The ERICA campus of Hanyang University ranked fifth with 78.4 points, followed by Seoul Campus with 74.7 points. The ERICA campus rankings stayed the same, but the Seoul campus have fallen compared to the previous year (6th place). As a result of the comprehensive evaluation, the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) ranked first with a score of 94.6. It was followed by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) with 84.5, Kyungil University with 82.4, Hannam University with 80.9, Hanyang University ERICA campus with 78.4, Dongguk University with 78.1, Korea University with 77.9, Incheon University with 75.6, and Konkuk University with 74.7. [Performance]Hanyang Delivers 60 Successful Candidates of the First Round of the 2019 Civil Service Exam (technical post)

Hanyang's Civil Service Exam Preparation Support Team said that it has delivered 60 successful candidates for the first round of the 2019 Civil Service Exam held on March 9th. By major departments, Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering accounted by far for the most with 11 each; followed by Mechanical Engineering wih 10; Architecture with 8; Communications, Data Processing, and Disaster Prevention with 6 each; and Electric Engineering with 2. The Civil Service Exam Preparation Support Team has helped on average 12 successful applicants per year since 2011. [Performance]Number of firms managed by CEOs who are Hanyang Graduates, 1st in nation

The number of companies run by CEOs who are graduates of Hanyang University is the highest in nation with 10,213 corporations (as of December 2018). This is 1.8 times larger than the average compared to the 6 major universities (Korea University, Sogang University, Seoul National University, Sungkyunkwan University, Yonsei University, and KAIST). According to the 2018 Hanyang Alumni Company Achievement Survey report that Hanyang University announced on April 26th, the 10,213 corporations contributed to the employment of around 720,000 people and sales of $573 billion annually (33.1% of Korean GDP). Of those, 334 companies went public in the securities market. The report was written in order to grasp the fruit of alumni corporations and for systematic startup support with reference to KED, the biggest domestic corporate credit rating agency. Hanyang University showed strength in the field of startups (companies established within the last 7 years) as well. There were 2,153 companies with CEOS who graduated from Hanyang University (December of 2018), recording first place among domestic universities. This is 1.5 times larger than the 6 major universities, and these companies hired 20,979 people and created annual profits of over 9.2 trillion won. Meanwhile the distribution by industry of alumni companies was the largest in the areas of manufacturing, wholesale, and retail, while the ratio of machinery, equipment, and electronic components was high among manufacturing companies. In addition, the representatives' majors was significantly higher in engineering fields at about 64%. [Performance]2019 QS World University Rankings by Departments

QS revealed the 2019 World University Rankings on February 26, 2019. Every year, QS announces five academic fields and 48 majors that rank 1st to 500th. While other universities exhibited dormancy in their upward movement, Hanyang University managed to get eight of its majors within the rank of 100. Ranking 48th on the list is the Department of Civil Engineering and 50th is the Department of Hotel Management. Six other departments that ranked between 51st and 100th are the Department of Architecture, Department of Chemical Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Materials Science, field of languages and Media Communication.
