BAI Chunli, the president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, received the honorary doctorate from Hanyang University on 3rd. The Chinese Academy of Sciences is China’s premiere academic research institution for research in the fundamental sciences and is the leading research institute in China with 104 national research institutes, 3 universities, 25 corporations, and 22 holding companies. Hanyang University recognized the president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences BAI Chunli’s contribution in international standardization of nanotechnology and in technical cooperation among Korea, China, and Japan, granting the honorary doctorate degree. Formerly, director BAI Chunli published over 350 papers and has won more than 20 prestigious awards, having been recognized by the academia and the industry. Additionally, he also served as the chairman of TWAS in 2013, the chairman of the GRC in 2014, the chairman of the FACS, and was the president of the Chinese Chemistry Society. ERICA IC-PBL center will hold the 2019 ERICA IC-PBL Competitive Exhibition on June 5th (Wed) at the conference hall of ERICA campus. This contest is held in order to enhance creative problem solving skills and foster outstanding ERICA students through solving problems suggested by industries. The contest is aimed at groups that consist of 3~5 ERICA students from more than 2 different departments. The application for participation can be submitted to room B109 of ERICA conference hall by 5 pm on March 29th (Fri). Candidates much fill out the entry form with a choice of one scenario problem, study plan, and agreement to share personal information. You can submit the documents after downloading and filling out the problem scenario, entry form, study plan, and personal information agreement from the IC-PBL center homepage (http://icpbl.hanyang.ac.kr). The duration of problem solving performance for the participating teams is from March 25th (Mon) until May 24th (Fri). The center provides 100,000 won for problem solving experimental fees in case it is needed. They can submit the final results of the problem each team chose, activity record of team work each week, individual self-examination journal, and satisfaction evaluation sheet until May 24th (Fri) at 5 pm to room B109 in the conference hall at ERICA. For the award, one grand prize, two first prizes, and 5 excellence prizes will be selected, and recipients will receive a certificate of award, a plaque, and prize money. The award ceremony is expected to be held on June 6th (Wed) at 1 pm at the conference hall of ERICA campus. The participants are taking a memorable photograph in front of the Light-up Rose Garden constructed around the lion statute at Hanyang University ERICA campus. ERICA's Light-up Rose Garden was installed at the ERICA campus of Hanyang University. 4,000 roses were used to decorate the area near the lion statue in front of the administration building, and it will light up every night for approximately 6 months. Hanyang University ERICA is preparing colorful events celebrating this year’s 40th anniversary including the ERICA Light-up Rose Garden, cherry blossom festival, and alumni invitation 40 year commemorative event. This garden was funded through a donation from the CEO of Pan Communication Korea, Kim Yong-bae (Hanyang University Department of Digital Culture & Contents, Doctor’s degree). The lighting ceremony was held on March 6th, at 6:30 pm and was attended by the vice president of ERICA Yang Nae-won, CEO Kim Yong-bae, students, and faculty members. The Light-up Rose Garden first went public in 2014 at the Seoul Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) with 6 million tourists visiting it in a month. It re-opened in April of 2015 due to popular request. Afterwards, it grabbed worldwide attention with a world tour in 2016 starting from Myeongdong Catholic Cathedral and proceeding to Hong Kong and Chengdu, China. Professor Kim Chee-ho from the Department of Digital Culture & Contents who assisted the creation of the Light-up Rose Garden said, “I hope ERICA’s Light-up Rose Garden becomes a place of attraction that not only students and faculty visit, but a place that citizens of Ansan and others will visit, too.” ▲Attendees are shouting “Fighting!” at the Light-up Rose Garden lighting ceremony held at the ERICA campus of Hanyang University. ▲CEO of Pan Communication Korea, Kim Yong-Bae, is giving a brief address.
Hanyang University's Department of Applied Art Education is holding a special lecture titled "Beyond Drawing" on Thursday, March 21st, at 4 pm in room 213 of the College of Education, led by Professor Frederic Fol Leymarie who has been invited from Goldsmiths, University of London. With the topic of "understanding the drawing activity via computational and robotic systems," Professor Frederic Fol Leymarie will lecture on forms of combining artificial intelligence and visual arts knowledge. Hanyang University will hold a study tour program for 40 high school students from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the Seoul Campus in Seongdong-gu for two weeks starting on September 29. The corresponding education is part of a student exchange program in which the UAE Education Ministry selects and sends its best students to advanced countries to develop their talents. The entire cost of their living expenses and education will be covered by the UAE Ministry of Education. At the request of the UAE Ministry of Education, Hanyang University prepared a curriculum based on ‘STEM (Science·Technology·Engineering and Math)’ education. STEM training will allow students to understand the principles naturally in the process of speaking and discussing questions with experts in the field. For a more effective education, renowned professors from Hanyang University, including Professor Lee Young-moo (Energy), Professor Sunwoo Myung-ho (Self Driving Vehicle), and Professor Park Jae-keun (Semiconductor) will provide lectures. In addition, to help understand Korean culture, Hanyang will conduct cultural experiences such as visiting tourist locations in Seoul and museums after special lectures and workshops. "We will provide a study tour program for UAE students for the first time among Korean universities," said Shin Seung-guk, the head of Hanyang University's Office of International Affairs. Hanyang University is planning to expand student exchanges with the UAE starting with this invitational training.

Hanyang University held the 'Celebration for the New Year with foreigners' in the International Hall, Seoul Campus in Seongdong-gu, Seoul on the morning of the 31st. This event was held to provide a chance for foreign students to experience Korean traditional culture and to build a bond between foreign and Korean students.
