The Times Higher Education (THE), a global university evaluation organization in the U.K., announced the 'THE World University Rankings 2021.' Hanyang University ranked among the 351 to 400, similar to the previous year. Among domestic universities, the rank fell one notch to 10th place.

The year’s evaluation included the top 1,527 universities in 93 countries. According to the world rankings, Oxford University ranked first this year following last year, while Stanford University, which was fourth in the previous year, stepped up to second place, resulting in Caltech, which was second the previous year, to fourth place. Subsequently, the rank continued with Harvard University (3rd), MIT (5th), Cambridge University (6th), UC Berkeley (7th), Yale University (8th), Priston University (9th), and Imperial College London (10th), which is the same as the previous year except for some changes.

▲ National University Rankings
In terms of domestic rankings, Seoul National University ranked 60th in the world, rising four steps to the previous year and become the nation's No. 1. The national top 10 rankings were followed by KAIST (96th), Sungkyunkwan University (101st), POSTECH (157th), Korea University (167th), Yonsei University (197th), UNIST (176th), Kyunghee University (251st to 300th), Sejong University (301st to 250th), and Hanyang University (351st to 400th).

Hanyang University has remained in the top 351-400 rankings since the start of the announcement in 2014. In detail, education environment received 40.1 points (39.1 points last year), research result received 40.8 points (40 points), paper citation counts received 42.3 points (44.1 points), industry-university cooperation received 97.6.1 points (86.1 points), and internationalization received 63.3.8 points (59.8 points), which all showed an increase compared to last year except the paper citation counts.

Meanwhile, THE has been evaluating and announcing the competitiveness of world universities every year since 2004, unlike the QS evaluation, which is centered on reputation. The THE World University Evaluation mainly evaluated the paper citation index for the past five years. THE's assessment categories include five areas: ▲ Education-learning conditions (30%), ▲ research results (30%), ▲ research influence (number of citations per paper) (30%), ▲ internationalization (7.5%) and ▲industry-academic cooperation (2.5%). Here, educational conditions are divided into five indicators, research results into three, and internationalization into three indicators. If detailed indicators are taken into account, a total of 13 indicators are used to calculate the rankings.
