The results of the ‘Youth Dream University’ evaluation were released on the 9th of the day, which comprehensively analyzed the ability to support employment and start-ups. Hanyang University has been listed as the best university in four consecutive years, making it the top university in the list of the best ‘Youth Dream University’.
The evaluation of the 2019 ‘Youth Dream University’, conducted by the Dong-A Ilbo, the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Employment Information Service together with research firm Macromill Embrain, is being announced every other year, and the list of 46 universities, divided into 10 best universities, 15 excellent universities and 21 youth dream universities, has been announced.
Hanyang University, Kyungwoon University, Dongguk University, Dongmyeong University, Sunmoon University, Sungkyunkwan University, Suncheonhyang University, Ajou University, Inha University and Korea University of Technology and Education were named the "best" youth Dream universities. Among them, Hanyang University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Suncheonhyang University both maintained their positions as best universities for four consecutive years (released in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019). Dongguk University, Sunmoon University and Korea University of Technology and Education have been selected for the third consecutive round of awards as best universities, while Ajou University and Inha University joined the best group this year after leaving the group last year. Kyungwoon University and Dongmyeong University immediately joined the best group as they first appeared in the selection evaluation.
Excellent universities, next to best universities, included Gachon University, Konkuk University, Kyung Hee University and Korea University, while Catholic University, Catholic University of Korea, Kyungil University and Gwangju University were listed as Youth Dream University. Yonsei University, Korea Aerospace University, Hannam University, and Hansae University were selected as Youth Dream College for the first time this year, and 12 of the 21 Youth Dream Universities first appeared this year.
The Dong-A Ilbo on the 10th, which delivered the announcement, said in an article that Hanyang University is running a ‘Hanyang Experience Development System’ that systematically manages students' careers until they graduate. The system is developed and applied for the first time by a domestic university to diagnose ‘employment readiness’ and provide information such as how to be prepared to find a job and what level has it reached. It stressed that the database and recruitment information of some 100,000 companies, as well as all job information of seniors, including post-employment thoughts and application letters, are covered. This year, it also emphasized that it is providing personalized solutions based on big data that have been collected.
Although the overall detailed scores and other details have yet to be disclosed, Hanyang University scored 83.3 points in education, the highest among the 10 best universities. The infrastructure score was also 81.9 points, the highest after Sunmoon University and Korea Advanced Institute of Technology and Education.
The Youth Dream University, which first started the announcement in 2013, had made the announcement every year until 2015, but later changed to a biennial one, followed by one in 2017. Therefore, it is the fifth time this year. No university has been named the best university for five consecutive times. The Dong-A Ilbo said the assessment was conducted through the ‘university allimi,’ public information of 224 four-year universities nationwide and focused on how actively universities support students' employment and start-ups and how efficiently they operate career guidance systems. The evaluation index is comprised of four areas: infrastructure, education, service, and network, and all 17 index scores that are subdivided were added together to calculate a total score of 1,000 points. In particular, the second-phase assessment was conducted in-depth on the students and a satisfaction survey was conducted to reflect the opinions of the actual students.
