Introduction
As is evident from the name, the Mathematics Education Department is a place to train math teachers. In order to become a good teacher, a deep understanding in "mathematics, education, and mathematics education" is necessary.In this department, "mathematics" is not focused on problem solving, which we learned in middle and high school, but is focused on the logic of the study. In other words, students learn math as a discipline. Most courses in the Department of Mathematics Education are similar to courses taught in the Department of Mathematics. However, the difference is that mathematics education focuses on "pure mathematics" such as algebra, analytics, and topological mathematics rather than applied mathematics. Through pedagogy, students learn various theories in a wide range of areas such as psychology, counseling, curriculum, and evaluation.

Highlights
Talk Concert for Math EducationThis event is a time for high school students, math teachers, and math teachers-in-training to have conversation. Students can talk to teachers about their questions, concerns, and listen to their answers. Teachers also talk to students about the questions they have and share their experiences. Students and teachers use this opportunity to get to know each other.
Club
Although a small department, there are active bands and academic clubs within. The mathematics education band “3et theory” performs often in small theaters and Daehakro with their motto "you, me, music, and 3et theory”. The academic club “Mathemagicians” move away from general mathematics classes to study and develop various experiential mathematics classes and to apply them to the field with the motto of "Become a good teacher not just an instructor".

This course aims to cultivate among students the comprehensive understanding of science and technology in modern society, employing philosophical methods and concepts. To do this, the course offers a survey of some important theoretical results recently obtained in science and technology studies. We will carefully examime a number of concrete case-studies, ranging from the electrification of America, quantum revolution to the introduction of western science to traditional Korea. We will then discuss the intrinsic nature of modern science and technology as well as its socio-cultural aspects in the context of modern society. Students who take the course shall appreciate how modern science and technology from the nineteenth century has come to manifest a number of unique characteristics, which can be clearly distinguished from the science and technology of even, the eighteenth century. We will discuss in the class the significance of this difference. The course will also highlights the importance of dialogue between experts with different background and encourage more interactions between humanities and natural sciences, so that we can make well-informed and reasonable decisions concerning complicated issues which are so common in our multi-layered society. | ||||||
