On a seemingly quiet summer day on the campus of Hanyang, the rumbling, thunderous sounds of an excavator can be heard coming from somewhere, on a campus that's seemingly so still and tranquil. This noise is the result of the ongoing construction of the track and field stadium, a new underground parking lot, and the Future Education Building for the School of Nursing. In fact, the sounds of construction have never actually ceased at Hanyang and have been an ongoing presence ever since the opening of the school in 1939. Let's learn some more about this ongoing construction currently happening during the summer of 2019.

Construction of the track and field stadium began on November 20th of last year. There are two main distinctions in its construction: (1) the underground parking lot below the track and field stadium which resolves the issue of parking space deficiency and (2) the sports facilities that will include an artificial turf soccer field, basketball courts, track and field, and a running track. Hanyang University closed the pedestrian passage from the Engineering Building Ⅱ along with the Law Building Ⅲ, where a tree decoration was installed. The construction is expected to end on March 31st of next year.

The new construction for the School of Nursing began on July 15th of last year. The Future Education Building for the School of Nursing is an exclusive building for the Division of Nursing, a 6-story building between HIT and Hanyang University Hospital. Vehicle entry and exit is restricted near the Business Administration Building and the Multi-disciplinary Lecture Hall due to this construction. It is expected to be completed by July 31st.

Shin Gyu-chul, an employee for the Facility Maintenance Team, said that around 28 small scale facilities are under ongoing construction besides the ones mentioned above, including the extension work for the Comax Startup Town and the painting of the exterior for Music Halls Ⅰand Ⅱ. “Currently we are designing the 6th and 7th residence halls, the biomedical research building, and machinery building.” The construction continues even during the hot summer for the convenience and welfare of Hanyang University members. “All employees of the Facility Maintenance Team are putting much effort into the construction site inspection management. Please understand with a wide heart if there are inconveniences regarding passing, noise, or dust during construction,” said Shin.
