1. Hanyang Online: Study from home for credit!

  • 1.Online Courses: Definition

    Online courses refer to
    a. hybrid courses that combine online learning with traditional classroom instruction and assessment,
    b. and courses that deliver instructional content and assessment 100% online.

  • 2.Online Credits and GPA

    Grades that are earned from online courses will be counted toward the student’s cumulative GPA

  • 3.Regular Courses

    Online courses that are categorized as Regular Courses refer to courses that are created and managed by Hanyang University. Typically, depth courses (전공과목) or general education/liberal arts courses (교양과목) from Hanyang’s course catalog are listed as regular courses.

  • 4.External Courses

    Online courses that are categorized as External Courses refer to courses that are created and managed by Hanyang University. Typically, depth courses (전공과목) or general education/liberal arts courses (교양과목) from Hanyang’s course catalog are listed as regular courses.

  • 5.Registration Period

    Students can enroll as well as modify their choices online during the regular registration period through the add/drop

  • 6.How to Enroll

    Students can register for regular online courses through their HY-in portal under the section Online Courses. Courses offered by Hanyang Cyber University can be accessed here: http://hanyangcyber.ac.kr, where students need to log-in to enroll.

2. Credit Exchange: Study from a local university close to you.

  • a.Partner Institutions for credit exchange
    • (1)University of Seoul(limited to 5 students), Andong National University(limited to 10 students), Korea University, Konkuk university, Pusan National University, kwandong university, Youngsan University, SungKyunKwan University , Ulsan University, Sookmyung Women's University, Chungang University, Duksung Women's University, Korea advanced institute for science and technology (KAIST) (for medical, fine arts, and sports majors: limited to students enrolled in the same fields of study), Chosun University (college of engineering), Kookmin University, Korea National Sport University, Inha University, Korea National University of Education, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies
      • Eligibility:
      • full-time enrollment and completed at least two semesters at your home campus
      • minimum GPA of 3.0 (as stated in “grades by semester” in HY-in portal)
      • no record of probationary status
      • students at their final semester before graduation are ineligible
      • number of opening: 5 for majors with more than 100 students enrolled per year (1st~ 4th year), and 3 for majors with less than 100 students.

      Students with higher GPA will be given priority.

  • b.Grades
    • Grades earned by taking courses from other institutions will be marked only as Pass/Fail or Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory, where scores above 80 will be interpreted as Pass/Satisfactory, and scores lower than 80 as Fail/Unsatisfactory.

3. Study abroad programs: Transfer credits from universities abroad

Students can enjoy studying abroad and possibly transfer credits earned from those programs to their degree requirements at Hanyang upon approval.

  • a.Study abroad program types:
    • (1) exchange programs
    • (2) language study programs
  • b.Targets

    Exchange programs (일반연수) are based on agreements with partner academic institutions around the world. Participants will enroll as regular students at partner university. Language study programs (어학연수) are limited to the partner university’s English language program courses, including summer or winter courses.

  • c.Duration

    Exchange programs are typically one year (two semesters).

  • d.Application process for credit transfer preapproval
    • (1)Refer to page 28 of the Campus Guide Book, Office of International Affairs section.
    • (2)To transfer credits from exchange programs, students must fill out and submit the electronic application form through HY-in, print a copy and receive a seal from the student’s supervising professor and the department. The following documents must be submitted to the Office of International Affairs approval:
      • a.Transfer credit application form (as described above)
      • b.Acceptance letter from the partner university
      • c.Copy of flight ticket
      • d.Copy of passport
      Transfer credits for language study programs are limited to one program throughout their academic career.
  • e.Approval to study abroad
    • (1)Students applying for exchange programs must receive a recommendation by the dean of the college/school to be approved by the president..
    • (2)Students applying for language study programs must receive a recommendation by the vice president of the Office of International Affairs to be approved by the president.
  • f.Requirements for credit transfer
    • (1)After obtaining preapproval for the exchange program, students may earn transfer credit towards their Hanyang degree.
    • (2)For proper credit transfer, students must complete their regular level of tuition to Hanyang, maintaining their status as current students during the semester(s) studying abroad. Transfer students must successfully complete a minimum of two semesters at Hanyang University.
  • g.Credit transfer limitations
    • (1)Upon successful completion of courses under study abroad programs, students may earn transfer credit towards their Hanyang degree.
    • (2)Students may transfer up to a maximum of 20 credits through exchange programs per semester and 40 credits in one year.
    • (3)Language study programs will be approved up to three credits, only once during a student’s academic career.
  • h.Criteria for credit transfer
    • (1)Courses for exchange programs at partner institutions will be categorized under specific major, second major, liberal arts and general elective credits. Second majors must be officially declared for exchange program courses to apply to students’ second major requirements. The course titles from partner institutions will be printed in the student’s transcript.
    • (2)Grades earned by taking courses from other institutions will be marked only as Pass/Fail or Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory, where scores above 80 will be interpreted as Pass/Satisfactory, and scores lower than 80 as Fail/Unsatisfactory. Audited courses will not receive credit towards the student’s Hanyang degree.
    • (3)Courses completed through exchange programs that are considered by the review committee as equivalent or similar to courses already completed at Hanyang will not be credited again.
  • i.Documents, review process for credit transfer after completing study abroad programs
    • (1)Upon successful completion of exchange programs, the documents listed below must be submitted to the student’s department for review. A Committee consisting of at least three faculty members from the department will review and determine credit transferability.
      • Official transcript from the study abroad institution
      • Course syllabus and assessment method (include a translated copy where applicable)
    • (2)To apply for credit transfer for language study programs, submit the above documents to the Office of International Affairs.
  • j.Final approval

    Once approved by the Committee (applicant’s department or Office of International Affairs) for credit transferability, the Office of Academic Affairs will apply the credits earned from study abroad programs towards their Hanyang degree. The course(s) will be listed under specific major or general elective courses.
